Apprenticeship guidance for Employers

The apprenticeship levy started on 6 April. To help employers prepare for the levy the apprenticeship service has issued this update and two new guidance infographics (below).  

1. Find apprenticeship training

The Register of Apprenticeship Training Providers allows employers to search for and select apprenticeships and approved providers who can deliver that training through Find apprenticeship training.

2. Sign agreements

The employer agreement is now online - here employers can now see and sign the agreement inside their account. 

3. Add apprentices and set up payments

Employers can set up apprentices on the system, ready for when they start from May. They can also set up payments to their training provider.   

4. The English percentage

The funds available to employers to spend on apprenticeships depend on the percentage of their pay bill that’s paid to employees who live in England. HMRC works out the English percentage for each PAYE scheme This is an important step for levy-paying employers as they prepare for apprenticeships starting from May and this is the first stage of a phased roll-out.

If they haven’t already, employers will need to set up their account – it shouldn’t take more than 10 minutes. Updated funding rules

Please note that the Apprenticeship funding and performance management rules 2017 to 2018 have been updated. These rules apply to all apprenticeship programmes starting on or after 1 May

The Institute for Apprenticeships started in April this year and is managing the processes and information services. They will be  publishing a series of videos over the next few weeks to walk employers through the new apprenticeshp services and drawing down your apprenticehip funding.
